MEET THE FOUNDER— Mel Poole

I wasn’t always a virtual admin assistant – especially as they didn’t exist when I first started my career!   However, for over 20 years I worked as an ‘in person’ assistant, notably an Executive Assistant and Personal Assistant, for top financial institutions in the City of London.  

As you might imagine, these were hugely demanding roles that involved working to hair-raising deadlines and learning new, ever-changing technologies.  My organisational skills were tested – and grew stronger – every day.

I soon realised that if I wanted to be successful, I had to be very good at managing relationships.  Luckily, I’m a ‘people person’ who loves working out how best to help others, which would come in handy when starting my business.

I’d always wanted to work for myself, but deep down I wondered if I really had what it took.  Then my wonderful son Bobby came along, and like a lot of new mothers I had to rethink my career plans.  It was finally time to ditch the commute and put myself in control of how, where, and when I worked.

I started Virtual Admin Assistance from my Essex home on 1st June, 2017.  Running my own business isn’t always easy, but it’s also one of the most exhilarating and rewarding things I’ve ever done. I owe a huge thanks to Bobby for giving me the motivation I needed!  

I’m extremely proud that my business has grown from just me, to the trusted network of VAs it is today.  It’s a genuine honour to help so many business owners concentrate on work they love, while we take care of things behind the scenes – often anticipating their needs ahead of time.

I know exactly what it means – and what it takes – to start a business from scratch.  So, as well as admin support I often act as a trusted sounding board for ideas and plans.  Feeling less alone in business is important, which means I love getting to know each and every client.  We build strong and engaged partnerships that work, and I’m proud to say that many of our clients have become my friends.

Some facts about Mel:

  • I take my work and my business extremely seriously, but also I love to laugh. Creating a fun working environment is vital – and luckily our clients appreciate it too!

  • Art is special to me, and my favourite artist is my son Bobby.  If you’re a budding artist yourself, why not watch his YouTube drawing tutorials for inspiration?

  • If I hadn’t become an Executive Assistant, I would have loved to play the flute in shows and musicals (although if you’ve seen the film American Pie, you’ll know why I don’t share that fact in person very often!)

  4. Because every business is different, we don’t work to fixed packages or rigidly-set hours.  Instead, you will simply be invoiced each month for the work we complete, in accordance with the rate agreed at the outset.
